Whitney Houston: The Voice

The shocking news of her death came exactly when the music industry celebrated its annual celebration of the Grammy Awards. It was like the Gods of Music decided that she, at least, should be honored the way she truly deserved the day of her death. Whitney Houston wasnt just another popular singer. No. She was far more than that. She was one of the greatest voices and most celebrated singers of all time. The 48-year-old singer found dead in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she had been staying as a guest. Authorities have not yet released Whitney Houston’s cause of death, but they all know she had struggled with substance abuse for years. At first she had tried to deny it No, Im not a drug addict, and neither is my husband. If that were so, youd get a lot less work out of me. It would show in the performances and in the work”. Tragically it HAD show in her perfomances and in the work and her singing career was practically over.

“God gave me a voice to sing with, and when you have that, what other gimmick is there?”. She had said. She wanted to be No1. She couldnt settle for anything less, but her marriage to Bobby Brown was the beginning of the end for her. In an infamous, addled 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer, Houston uttered crack is wack as she admitted to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills. Seven years later, she told Oprah Winfrey she was clean and sober, and detailed her marriage to Brown. He slapped me once, she said. And spit on meHe was my drug.

Lets remember this amazing artist through her words

I decided long ago never to walk in anyones shadow; if I fail, or if I succeed at least I did as I believe.

From the beginning, the camera and I were great friends. It loves me, and I love it.

I finally faced the fact that it isnt a crime not having friends. Being alone means you have fewer problems.

When I decided to be a singer, my mother warned me Id be alone a lot. Basically we all are. Loneliness comes with life.

I almost wish I could be more exciting, that I could match what is happening out there to me.

Nobody likes to be picked on. Nobody.

R.I.P Whitney. You were great and we will always remember you as such
